For my FMP i decided to design and produce the art brochure for the art and design National diploma, this was mainly because i wanted to do something live, where it was actually being designed for a purpose. I began the project by various research into the art and design subject, the range of materials, techniques and vast variety of expression through creativity. I began by visiting the V&A which is the hugest art and design museum in Europe, it maintains over 8miles of gallery which i thought would be perfect to grasp enough information and ideas to continue with my ideas generation when i returned to college. Some of my research amazed me and i was astounded with the high quality and history pieces by artists such as Micheal Angelo throughout the Renaissance. I looked at collage artists such as Steve McPherson, and William Burroughs. Both fantastic designers that produce countless original pieces and have maintained their own found style throughout all of their work.
I worked closely with the Art and design students and regularly asked them for opinions, feedback and ideas when necessary. I also worked with Barry Legg, who knows an awful lot about the technical side of things, with the Macs, photography and answered any queries i had with the designing of the brochure where the Mac was involved. He helped me take all of the shots for the brochure where the layout was a double page spread of all the students work, photos and info layed out and then an above shot taken. This was difficult to plan but with the help of their tutors and Barry i found it less stressful to organize.
<--- this is a typical shot that was taken, i then had to load these onto the mac and edit the light and exposure in photo shop. Then place the photos into the document on InDesign.
I had to ensure that all the relevant info was on the double page spread but the work was still on show.
A couple of the shots went wrong like this one where the info was placed on the gutter so that when the brochure was opened all of the type was cut out and unreadable. This wasn't spotted until the printing process and so nothing could be done to avoid this by this time.
Another technical hitch was my name wasn't put on the brochure until the very end and for some reason that copy of the document wasnt printed which therefore meant i had to sign all of the 100 copies by hand.

So here we are with only a week left on the course.

Throughout the course i have changed my ideas on my progression route quite frequently. when i first began my second year i was adamant that i would travel and do charity work. After applying to various groups and programs i found one that was suitable for me with oyster, a charity group that provides different gap year opportunities. The opportunity that I wished to participate in was to teach English in Tanzania, and i was thrilled to be given the position as i went for the interview. However as this would be purely voluntarily I would pay for all of my own expenses, being travel, food and accommodation, and any group excursions. When i worked out the finances it calculated up to roughly £6000 just for the three months. This would increase is i stayed on for longer. I would also have to pay administration fee's and place ongoing deposits throughout this year. This wasn't going to be financially possible. I then applied to various estate agents and any full time positions in this field of work. After going for interviews with ward and partners, your move and various other smaller firms. Due to me being able to go full time in July after i qualify my diploma they found this in practical. I am now starting to look at HND at Canterbury college. Mainly because i love graphic design and its something i am so passionate about.

I've finished my final brochure design now and it has been sent to the printers now :D I have a few final designs and illustration ideas that i will upload.

These are two designs i created last year. The 'Circus' design is my fashion magazine front cover which i created using collage and ink and bleach.
The 'Levi' poster was for my retro poster design project from last year, I imitated the dada style. Using collage materials and then various substances like tea bags and acrylic paints.

FMP

Its now our final major project and I have decided to design and produce the end of year brochure which will contain all of the art and design students work and personal profiles which will give a small insight into them. For this i have researched into a huge variety of styles and themes of which i could run through the booklet... one of my clients favourite idea's is the Roadkill website layout which features all photography of their desk and will also feature their work. However to follow my own personal hand made style one of my favourite idea's is to design the desk cover with paper and inks and paints and then allow them to accessorise the desk how they would like.

This is my all time favourite website, i love the use of photography to present personal space as a soft of invite into the world of that person. The site is entirely hand made, including the navigation text which is made using masking tape and hand drawn type. The website looks fresh, simple and resembles the audience they hope to attract, which will be young, creative skater boys who all of the gory drawings and skating photography will tend to appeal to.

This website contains elements of both hand made and digital processes, the navigation is horizontal with a bar accross the top and there is a side, navigation bar which has the subheadings for each section.

I really like this design. It again incorporates collage, hand drawn and digital parts. It looks really fashionable, creative and well planned out.

Web design

This is a Japanese website, i love the hand crafted illustration that is the main focus point to the page. the language is all Japanese so i cant actually navigate the site well because of that! however i do really like the layout and find it really simple yet creative at the same time.

Flash based websites

I have begun to look at some really cool ways that flash player is used within web design. The FWA (favourite website awards) directed me to some really well developed sites...
<- This was a really well presented, interactive website which allowed the figures to move, and pose when you placed the cursor onto them. The figures moved in high quality which appeared more like mini-video clips. www.jetueunami.com

Another really cool site which enables the viewer to be really interactive is the Honda site, which even though it is really modern in terms of the quality and flash player they have used it can be really confusing and makes the viewer not want to continue because of the daunting use of buttons and links.

Another website i found that i particularly liked the style of is 'the best of us challenge' site which is quite illustration based and as the cursor moves there is a view of a room which tips in the motion of your movement. New UNIT

As from today we are starting a new WebDesign project, to begin this i really need to understand how the internet works with different servers, dongles?! etc?
Firstly so i've got something to look back on...
The home computer is connected to a home hub?
This is then linked to the server, being BT/virgin media etc.
This is connected to an exchange which would be found pretty much in each town
And finally this information can be sent to a sort of internet house which can be found within miles and miles, there are racks full of servers and then alternate backup's which can support the data if need be..
